Hiking in the Karwendel Alpine Park & Rofan Mountains
Ideal base
for hikes and mountain tours
The Achensee region nestles between the Karwendel Alpine Park – the most beautiful nature reserve in the Limestone Alps – and the Rofan Mountains with their unique Alpine flora and abundance of game.
We offer ideal routes for everyone. The villages in the Achensee region are situated at 930 m above sea level and the highest mountain peak reaches 2,457 m. The region is criss-crossed by 450 km of marked hiking trails.
Up and away...
The Karwendel mountain range, which surrounds the lake on the western side, is Europe’s largest nature reserve.
The Rofan Mountains merge into the beautiful landscape around Steinberg in the east. The car-free western shoreline offers idyllic hiking trails to the popular Gaisalm rest spot. You can also enjoy a combination of lakeside hikes and boat cruises around Lake Achensee.
